Magical Doula Tools: 1.) The Washrag. Such a simple small tool that is full of usefullness. (Is usefullness a word?). Remember when mom used to drape your forehead with a cool washcloth when you were sick, applied to an owie, or a hot day to simply cool off. Those memories of being cared for are remembered and make you feel safer and taken care of when given to you by a labor supporter. Oh aches and pains-cold feels good sometimes and so does hot. Doulas are happy, eager even, to bring you the comfort of which ever feels the best. Refreshing the rag to the temp you need as often as necessary. Sometimes you just need to block the world out. The beeping, the heart monitor, the door opening and closing, etc. A washrag over the eyes can help you do just that.....block out the world to bring your focus inward to you and your baby. Day two you are still in labor-A wahrag face wash is more refreshing then it is given credit for! Pushing-Oh jeez but that makes you hot! A washbasin of ice water, two to three washrags to rotate on your forehead and neck can make that heat bearable. (Especially with a fan, more on that later). The loveable useabale Washrag!
