Maharaja Sayaji Rao, was of peasant stock, very distant relative of the royal family...poor cousins, whom the diwan had selected along with one other for the queen to choose from, after the death of her husband and a few months later as she was pregnant they waited for the issue but as a daughter was born she was sidelined and the succession was given to his brother who was released from prison where the king had put him for repeated attempts in plotting to murder him ,and sank the kingdom within months of being crowned, the queen who was barely 17 went back to her house in poona from baroda, where no relative supported her case and started a vilification campaign against the brother in law who had been put in prison for his wicked deeds and was now ruler , with info from Baroda fed by her trusted lieutenants from the capital she wrote to the viceroy week by week descrying the misrule of the unlawful usurper....and in a years time had him dismissed by the Resident...who then reappointed her to the throne...and this boy of 11 was allowed as a heir apparent.to be ..trained and coached from 4 am to 10pm...in all the arts and sciences and 5 languages ie....sanskrit ,marathi, english , latin and greek ...apart from being drilled in sword fight , lathi and all the martial arts...till the age of 18 ...then when he was 16 the Resident wanted him to take the throne...but on pleading ,his tutors put in 2 yrs crash course in political science..into a few months and he was crowned.at 16..... written from memory SAYAJI RAO OF BARODA by Fathesinghrao Gaekwad.grandson,President board of cricket control, and WWF India..
