Maharashtra alliance: Sena says talks on, BJP wants equal number of seats NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena and BJP on Monday tried to play down differences over sharing of seats for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, even as they refused to budge from their stated stands. I want the alliance to remain intact, Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray told reporters on Monday when questioned about the future of Senas tie-up with BJP. Until a decision is arrived at, wont say anything negative, Uddhav said refusing to comment on the differences and spoil the environment. The BJP also refused to comment on the controversy, but hinted that both parties should contest equal number of seats. BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that negotiations were on with Shiv Sena. A proposal has been given to Shive Sena chief and it is too early to make a comment, Rudy said. After giving seats to smaller parties, whatever seats are left should be divided equally between Shiv Sena and BJP, Rudy said. Earlier, openly expressing his desire to become the chief minister for the first time from a public platform, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray had on Saturday asked the electors to give him a chance and assured they would not regret. Uddhav also sought to assert the pre-eminence of Shiv Sena in Maharashtra politics vis-a-vis its ally, saying the face that will rule the state in the event of the saffron alliance coming to power will be from Shiv Sena only. Maharashtras over 8.28 crore voters will vote in a single phase, one-day poll on October 15 to elect its 13th 288-member assembly and its 18th chief minister. The results will be declared on October 19, and in case of a clear verdict, the new government may assume office around the time of Diwali, even though the existing assemblys term expires only on November 8.
