Mahindra gets a clean sweep in the Dakshin Dare 2012 Rally Mahindra and Mahindra’s flagship SUV, Mahindra XUV 500 after receiving unprecedented response ever since its launch and roping in around 25,000 bookings in the second round of bookings has now come out a winner at the Dakshin Dare 2012 Rally. The Dakshin Dare 2012 Rally was concluded just recently. Grabbing the top two slots in the Ultimate (Extreme) category, the Mahindra XUV 500 SUV has become the first diesel SUV to get this title. Mahindra’s top selling SUV, Mahindra Scorpio also managed to grasp the first two positions in the Endurance category of the rally that lasted for five days and was held in Bangalore. Driving adventure to the zenith Mahindra Thar ruled on the top spot in the Corporate category. The team Mahindra Adventure accredits its success in the rally to the flagship SUVs Mahindra XUV 500 and Mahindra Scorpio. Gaurav Gill (co-driver Musa Sheriff), the national champion and Lohitt Urs (co-driver Chipong Chiwan) were the drivers who drove Mahindra XUV 500 SUV to the ladder of success in the Ultimate (Extreme) category. On the other hand Sanjay Takale(co-driver Musthafa) and Karthick Maurthi (co-driver Sankar Anand) were the drivers who zoomed Mahindra Scorpio to pick the first two awards in the Endurance category. While K.S Venkatesh (co-driver Chandra Sekaran) triumphed the rugged Mahindra Thar to the numero uno position. Overjoyed with the success of Mahindra SUVs, the Sr. Vice President, Marketing, Automotive Division, Mahindra and Mahindra, Mr Vivek Nayer accredited the success of Mahindra at the rally to the true spirit of Mahindra SUVs. It is a historic win for Mahindra who got a clean sweep in all the important categories of the rally. The rally was flagged off on April 9th, 2012 with over 220 participants and 100 four wheelers who took part in the Southern India rally. The participants covered a distance of around 2000 kms scattered across Kerela, Karnataka and Tamilnadu. Last year the winner was Maruti Grand Vitara that beat others in the rally. Maruti SUV Gypsy also participated in the rally this year. Mahindra launched the XUV 500 SUV last year in the end of September and has been ruling the SUV segment since then. Mahindra XUV 500 has changed Mahindra’s image from a SUV maker to a global car maker with its flagship SUV. Mahindra’s Scorpio until now was the leading SUV in its segment but after the launch of Mahindra XUV 500 it has taken a back seat. Mahindra is planning to bring in a facelift of Scorpio and by 2014 the company is likely to launch a new Scorpio SUV with rejuvenated looks. Apart from this the company also has plans to bring a low cost SUV which could be launched by the festive season of Diwali.
