Mahtani Lying about Masaiti Homes, Says Ventriglia Finance Bank - TopicsExpress

Mahtani Lying about Masaiti Homes, Says Ventriglia Finance Bank Chairman Rajan Mahtani is spreading more false claims in the media regarding the building of 127 homes for displaced families by Zambezi Portland Cement, the original company founders said in a press release distributed to media yesterday. According to a text of a speech by Mahtani published on Zambian Watchdog, the Indian multimillionaire claimed to be offering an act of charity to the people of Masaiti District. Mahtani also denounced what he called a “malicious character assassination” driven by a “personal vendetta” by the minority shareholders. Now, the original owners of the company are arguing that Mahtani had nothing at all to do with the home building for the Chiwala Royal Establishment. “The fact is that Mahtani has not contributed a single kwacha to the construction of these homes,” said Antonio Ventriglia, the original founder and true owner of Zambezi Portland Cement. “It is a great pity that Mahtani not only steals property through fraud and forgery, he also attempts to steal credit for the housing programme.” The housing project opened yesterday was actually initiated by ZPC Managing Director Daniele Ventriglia, who was subjected to an illegal deportation allegedly arranged by Mahtani despite a standing court injunction. All of the approvals and permits from the environmental authorities (ZEMA) were obtained by Mr. Ventriglia during the period in which he served as executive of the company. The arrangement for the design and construction of the 127 homes and VIP bathrooms was reached in collaboration between the Chiwala Royal Establishment, the Senior Chief Chiwala, and Daniele Ventriglia. According to the social responsibility programme initiated by Mr. Ventriglia, there were also commitments to build one church, one medical clinic, and a primary school with boreholes for water. Under the stewardship of the Ventriglia family, Zambezi Portland Cement had contracted the provider ECOWISE SOLUTIONS LTD of Lusaka to carry out the Resettlement Action Plan. Mr. Mahtani was not involved in the plan at any level and did not commit any funds toward the project in any capacity. According to the ZPC Legal Centre’s press release, Mahtani has been involved in forgery, unlawful deportations, and several instances of using the police, including a dramatic armed raid on the $160 million cement plant in order to force out the managers and arrange a sham board meeting to take over the assets. zambiareports/2014/06/24/mahtani-lying-masaiti-homes-says-ventriglia/
