Mail Today, New Delhi, Sep 9, 2014 Modern technology is ignored during disasters: Natural disasters are frequent issues. There are systems available for advance warnings but unfortunately that information is not used or acted upon. Timely evacuation could have reduced the number of dead considerably. A failure in the same had led to high number of casualties in Uttrakhand last year, and now its just a repeat episode in Jammu and Kashmir. It appears that the National Disaster Management Authority and the state governments do not have proper plan of action and eventually depend upon the armed forces for rescue operations. Modern technology should be utilsed to act against an upcoming disaster to minimise the loss of life and property. Subhash Vaid via email
