Maintain standard of medical education: PM Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wants no compromise with standards of the public and private medical colleges in the country. She was inaugurating 11 medical colleges in several districts at her office on Saturday. She thanked the ministry for starting the new medical collages -- six of them privately-run. “I would like to ask the health ministry to maintain standard of the colleges,” she said, emphasising the need to monitor the colleges. She also urged the medical students to serve the people as true doctors. The Prime Minister spoke with officials of the new medical colleges in a video conference. Of the 11 new medical institutes, six will be under the health ministry and five under the army. That takes the number of medical colleges under the health ministry to 29 and those under the army to six. Besides, there are 63 private medical colleges in Bangladesh. The new medical colleges under the health ministry will be at Tangail, Sirajganj, Manikganj, Jamalpur, Patuakhali and Rangamati while those under the army are in Chittagong, Rangpur, Jessore, Bogra and Comilla. Health Minister Mohammed Nasim accompanied by civil and army officials attended the function.
