Majid Derakhshani, the head of the music band called, Mâh Bânoo, has just been interviewed by the journalist, Masih Alinejad, with regards to the progress of the campaign called “My voice, my right”. This campaign has been launched in order to give a chance to ordinary women sing in protest to the long-standing ban in the Islamic Republic, which restrains female singers from singing alone. Asked about what he thinks of this campaign, he replied: “I have heard some of the songs these women sing, and I have to admit that they have deeply touched me. Basically, it was such a great idea for these women to partake in this campaign who initiated it and who sang for it. Personally, I am deeply intrigued by this issue. As you can clearly notice, the voices of these women have struck a chord amongst the superstars of the Iranian music community who wholeheartedly support these women. When you see ordinary women who are not necessarily trained artists take to singing and filming themselves simultaneously, you understand that the message that they are trying to convey is that they do not approve of the fact that women are banned from singing solo in this country.” Majid Derekhshani also elaborated on the summon that every single one of the women in his music band, Mâh Bânoo, received: “About two-three months ago, the women constituting my music band were summoned by the police to the Prosecutor’s Office of the Law Enforcement Unit. The women were so badly interrogated that they were even abused.” He further noted that the reason why the police were interrogating them was the fact that women who were singing solo in his band recorded their clip and put it on the Internet. He said: “In fact, their problem that the video clip containing the solo-singing of these women should not have been produced in Iran. There still is such a high pressure on women. As a matter of fact, it has been established that women of this group have been officially summoned to the court. Majid also talked about the recent travel ban that has been imposed on him and he said that he, too, has been verbally summoned to the court and he is resisting. In the end, he saw the issuance of a written summon in his regard. He stated that the motive for the questions that her received was really about why a video clip displaying women singing had been recorded. Majid continued: “The authorities have ever since created a lot of difficulties for women of our group and our concert itinerary for the future has been badly affected. We were supposed to hold concerts both in and outside of Iran; however, with the ordeal that we have just lived, our entire concert schedule has been jumbled up.” According to Majid, since Rouhani’s arrival in power not much has changed in terms of recording and obtaining permits for concerts involving music bands; it has now become commonplace that concerts involving women end up being cancelled in the last minute because the women who are forced to withdraw from these concerts by the authorities oppose them. When Masih Alinejad asked him about what he would do if one of the female members of his band were not allowed to appear on stage, he said: “If the authorities banned even one woman in my band from appearing in a concert, I would choose not to hold the concert at all”. Also, when asked about as of when women were banned from singing in Iran, he responded: “It started during the initial stages of the revolution, when they gradually started to change most aspects of our daily life. It began with issue of hijab. Then the issue of women’s singing was raised. Eventually, most social activities became the exclusive domain of men. It is true that women can still drive, but in many places in Iran today there are strict limitations on the musical performance of women. In response to his personal opinion about the prohibition on women’s voice in concerts and other cultural activities, he responds “I feel sorry that we men have had the chance to sing, but we denied this opportunity to 50% of the artists who would have been women. We have made a gaffe. In particular, I know women who have studied singing for 23 years and have put a lot of effort into learning to sing, but have never had the chance to perform their skills. I find that extremely sad. Finally, when asked about whether he regrets returning to Iran, he responds: “No, I have never regretted returning to Iran since Iran is the hub of my cultural activities. If, however, one day I am banned from performing in Iran, then I would be obliged to leave Iran. Hence, as long as I am not obliged to leave Iran, I will stay. Majid Derakhshani, à la tête du groupe de musique Mâh Bânoo, vient dêtre interviewé par la journaliste Masih Alinejad dans le cadre de la campagne My voice, my right [Ma voix, mon droit]. Cette campagne a été lancée récemment pour permettre aux femmes iraniennes de chanter en public. En effet, une vieille loi de la République islamique interdit aux femmes de chanter seules, le geste étant jugé immoral, car considéré comme séducteur. Lorsque interrogé à propos de ses sentiments sur cette campagne, M. Derakhshani répond : Jai écouté quelques chansons interprétées par ces femmes, et je dois admettre quelles mont intimement ému. En fait, cétait une excellente idée pour elles de participer à cette campagne et dy chanter. Personnellement, je suis profondément interpellé par cet événement. Comme vous pouvez clairement le remarquer, les voix de ces femmes ont touché une corde sensible parmi la communauté des vedettes iraniennes de la musique, qui les supportent de tout cœur. Lorsque vous voyez ces femmes ordinaires, qui nont pas nécessairement de formation professionnelle ou artistique, se filmer ensemble, vous comprenez que le message quelles tentent de faire entendre est quelles sopposent au fait que les femmes, en général, se voient interdit de chanter seules dans ce pays. M. Derekhshani est aussi revenu sur les citations à comparaître que chacune des femmes de son groupe Mâh Bânoo ont reçues. Il y a environ deux ou trois mois, les femmes membres de mon groupe ont été convoquées par le procureur du Bureau de lUnité du maintien de la Loi. Elles ont été si brutalement interrogées quelles ont même été physiquement maltraitées. Il ajoute que la raison pour laquelle la police les interrogeait était que les femmes qui chantaient en solo dans son groupe de musique avaient enregistré leur performance, puis lavaient publiée sur Internet. Il précise : En réalité, leur problème était que le clip vidéo de leur performance solo avait été produit en Iran. Il y a encore une lourde pression sur les femmes. Pour tout dire, les femmes du groupe ont été formellement convoquées en Cour. M. Derekhshani a aussi révélé quil sest vu récemment imposer une interdiction de voyager. De plus, il a été, dans un premier temps, verbalement convoqué en Cour. Bien quil ait résisté, il a en définitive reçu une citation à comparaître cette fois écrite lui étant adressée. Il dit que la raison pour laquelle on cherche à le questionner est, précisément, pourquoi un clip vidéo montrant des femmes en train de chanter a été enregistré. Il continue. Les autorités nont cessé depuis de multiplier les difficultés envers les femmes du groupe, au point où nos tournées de concerts ont été grandement compromises pour lavenir. Nous étions censés tenir des concerts à la fois à lextérieur et à lintérieur de lIran; toutefois, avec les épreuves que nous traversons, notre calendrier a été complètement dérangé. Selon Majid Derekhshani, larrivée au pouvoir de Rouhani na pas vraiment changé les conditions denregistrement de musique ou dobtention de permis pour participer à des concerts. Il est maintenant tout à fait commun que des concerts impliquant des femmes soient annulés à la dernière minute, pour la simple raison que les autorités forcent ces dernières à se retirer de lévénement. Lorsque Masih Alinejad lui demande ce quil ferait dans léventualité où un des membres féminins de son groupe se voit interdit de monter sur scène, il répond : si les autorités interdisent une seule des femmes du groupe de participer au concert, je choisirai de ne pas tenir de concert du tout. Aussi, lorsque la journaliste lui demande ce quil ferait si lune des artistes féminines du groupe se voyait interdit de chanter en Iran, il dit : Cela avait commencé dès les débuts de la révolution, quand ils ont commencé à graduellement changer la plupart des aspects de nos vies quotidiennes. Cela avait débuté avec la question du hijab. Ensuite, ils se sont tournés vers le droit des femmes à chanter. Peu à peu, la plupart des activités sociales sont devenues lexclusif domaine des hommes. Il est vrai que les femmes peuvent encore conduire une voiture, mais maintenant, à plusieurs endroits de lIran, il existe de strictes limitations pour les femmes dans le domaine musical. Quant à son opinion personnelle à propos de linterdiction des voix féminines dans des concerts ainsi que dautres activités culturelles, il répond : Je me sens attristé que nous, hommes, avions eu la chance de chanter, mais ce faisant, nous avons bloqué cette opportunité à 50% des artistes, qui auraient été des femmes. Nous avons fait une erreur. Je connais personnellement des femmes qui ont étudié 23 ans le chant et y ont mis un effort immense, mais nont jamais eu la chance dexercer leurs talents. Je trouve cela extrêmement triste. Finalement, lorsque Masih Alinejad lui demande sil regrette avoir retourné en Iran, il répond : Non. Je nai jamais regretté mon retour, car lIran est le centre de mes activités culturelles. Si, toutefois, je me vois interdit un jour de me produire en Iran, je serai alors obligé de quitter. Ainsi, aussi longtemps où je ne serai pas forcé de quitter, je reste. Si quelquun travaillant dans un champ artistique ne peut pas réaliser son plein potentiel, il ou elle va forcément disparaître. #myforbiddensong #صدایمنحقمن
