Major Fire Updates Watch and Act - Linksview Road Fire, Springwood (Blue Mountains) 18/10/13 20:45 Posted: 18/10/2013 More than 280 firefighters continue to work on containing The Linksview Road Fire in Springwood which has now burnt more than 2,100 hectares of bushland. This fire is now listed at Watch and Act. Current Situation Earlier today Multi-Agency Building Impact Assessment Teams, lead by the NSW RFS, inspected properties around Springwood and Winmalee. At this stage, 81 properties have been destroyed, with 37 damaged. Approximately 30 percent of the fireground has been assessed. The number of properties damaged or destroyed will rise. Advice For more detailed information on the streets inspected today click here. Residents are able to return to Chapman Parade, and the Lindsay Road intersection, Faulconbridge. Watch and Act - Ruttleys Road Fire (Wyong LGA) 18/10/13 22:06 Posted: 18/10/2013 The Ruttleys Road Fire has burnt more than 2,650 hectares of bushland. The fire is currently being controlled by firefighters and is at Watch and Act. Current Situation The threat has reduced to properties in Chain Valley Bay North, Gwandalan and Summerland Point communities following successful back burning operations in these areas. Firefighters are continuing to back burn in the Munmorah State Conservation Area from the Pacific Highway to Birdie Beach Drive. There is a potential threat to properties in Elizabeth Bay Drive, Lake Munmorah. Crews are stengthening back burns and mopping up around Catherine Hill Bay, Nords Wharf and Cams Wharf - where a threat to properties still remains. Over the past 24 hours the Ruttleys Road Fire has burnt through Tall Timbers Road, Carters Road and Kanangra Drive, spread north east into the Munmorah State Conservation Area and then burnt further into Catherine Hill Bay. There are reports that some properties have been damaged or destroyed. Community Meetings For residents of Gwandalan and Summerland Point a Community Meeting was held at the Gwandalan Bowling Club, Gamban Road 4:00pm TODAY. For residents of Cave Beach, Murrays Beach and the surrounding areas a Community Meeting was held at the Swansea Workers Club, 9 Rawson Street 6:00pm TODAY. Advice Conditions may be changing. Watch and Act - State Mine Fire (Lithgow and Blue Mountains) 18/10/13 21:48 Posted: 18/10/2013 A large bush fire is burning between Lithgow and Bilpin. Current Situation Firefighters are conducting back burning operations around Lithgow tonight. Residents are advised to expect an increase in flames and smoke as a result. The fire has burnt over a large area from near Lithgow towards Bilpin and Mountain Lagoon. The fast moving fire has burnt through more than 27,600 hectares. Fire is burning on both sides of Mount Irvine Road. Back burning operations will continue into the evening. A number of properties have been reported destroyed in this fire. The Great Western Highway has been reopened between Mount York Road and Coxs River Road at Mount Victoria. Clarence and Dargan residents are allowed to return to their homes. Community meetings will be held tomorrow,(Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the following locations: Mountain Lagoon RFB on Sams Way Mountain Lagoon at 11:00am Clarence RFB, Bells Line of Rd., nearest cross street Petra Ave., Clarence at 2:00pm . Watch and Act - Hank St Fire (Heatherbrae) 18/10/13 22:18 Posted: 18/10/2013 The Hank Street Fire is burning in the Heatherbrae area. The fire is not contained. Current Situation The Hank Street Fire has been burning under difficult weather conditions and has burnt over 5,000 hectares of bushland. This fire is still very active and is currently burning in the area of Lisadell Road. Where conditions allow crews have been conducting backburning. Containment is now at around 90%. Active fire is still presetn in the SW near the industrial development. There is potential for the fire to spread into the Botanical Gardens if containment lines are breached. Advice The fire has burnt along Richardson Road, Medowie Road, Grahamstown Road, Lisadell Road, Ferodale Road, Hank Street and Tomago Road. Residents from Salt Ash, Fullerton Cove and Nelson Bay Road are now able to return to their properties. Follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan. Watch and Act - Hall Road Fire, Balmoral Village (Southern Highlands / Wollondilly) 18/10/13 21:46 Posted: 18/10/2013 A fire is continuing to burn near the villages of Balmoral, Yanderra, Bargo, Pheasants Nest and Wilton in the Southern Highlands. Current Situation An uncontained fire has burnt over 8,000 hectares, crossing Picton Road and is burning within the Sydney Catchment area near Macarthur Drive, Wilton. The fire has crossed the railway line where it crosses the freeway at Yerrinbool - the rail line has been closed. The fire has jumped to the south of Picton Rd in the vicinity of Cordeaux Colliery. Firefighters are attempting contain this. Advice There are reports of ash and smoke are drifting into Mittagong however there is no threat to Mittagong at this stage. Continue to monitor the situation closely. Significant back burning is underway and will be for days to come. This will produce significant amounts of smoke. There will be increased activity from both ground and air crews. Some of this burning is very close to residential buildings. Crews are working to have containment lines in place before the arrival of warm, windy weather forecast for Sunday. Community Meeting: Wilton A meeting was held at 7pm tonight at Wilton Community Hall - Broughton Street, Wilton. A community newsletter has been sent to affected communities. If you live in Yanderra Residents are now able to return to their properties via Tylers Road. If you live in Balmoral or Bargo Residents are now able to return to their properties. Significant backburing operations will take place around Bargo. The evacuation centre at Brethren Church, Wonga Road, Picton is now CLOSED. If you live in Yerinbool or Hill Top Check and follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan and prepare for a bush fire in your area. If your plan is to leave, or you are not prepared, leave early. Watch and Act - Mount York Road, Mt Victoria Fire (Blue Mountains) 18/10/13 21:16 Posted: 18/10/2013 The fire burning near Mount York Road at Mount Victoria in the upper Blue Mountains, is being controlled by firefighters. Current Situtation The fire is burning in the Grose Valley, approaching the Great Western Highway near Berghoffers Pass. The fire has not crossed the Great Western Highway to the west. Earlier reports that the fire had crossed into the Kanimbla Valley or Megalong Valley are not confirmed. The Great Western Highway is currently open between Mount York Road and the Coxs River. There is significant smoke throughout the area from Katoomba to Glenbrook and beyond. Advice Back burning strategies planned for this evening are not going ahead. At this stage, the Great Western Highway will remain open unless affected by fire activity. Monitor the situation. Ensure you know what you will do if the situation changes.
