Major Movie Reviews – *New Movie Release* Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (PG-13) (Action, Drama) In Theaters Friday Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is a textbook example of how to get a blockbuster right: you can have all the mind-blowing action set pieces that you want, but they must be populated with characters that you actually care about. It may lack its predecessors lofty ambitions, but once the bullets, spears and hairy fists start flying youll be too wrapped up to care. Just when it seemed like blockbusters could never evolve, in rides this extraordinary epic - a towering fable of humanity and brutality that takes a great movie myth and launches it forward. The strength of this mythical morality tale and the CGI surrounding it almost make up for the short shrift given to the humans in this chapter. Note I said almost. The film stars Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Kirk Acevedo, Judy Greer, and the wonderful Gary Oldman. As entertainment, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is impeccably crafted and often spectacular. MMR gives this film 3 out of 5 General Officer Stars. Movie Story Line: A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earths dominant species.
