Make it an inconvenience to protect and save the lives of our brothers and sisters in the job. Shut the road down until the scene is sized up, safe, and under control. A civilian died when a car slammed into the back of Houston (Texas) Engine Company 36 - who was blocking, on a freeway early this morning. The crash happened just before 0230 hours on I-45. The engine company was blocking a crash scene when the car slammed into it. The cars passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Two of the four Firefighters on the scene were also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Engine 36 was on the scene providing protection to the accident scene. As the HFD stated: without that protection - the fatalities could have been greater...once again reminding us of the extreme danger to us when operating on the roadways. Take Care. Be Careful.
