Make no mistake about it. Irrespective of Linda Ikejis relationship with Mr Aye Dee and whether he was driven by obsession or not, my opinion about Linda hasnt changed one bit. Even before this scandal, Ive maintained that Linda was the Nigerian queen of internet intellectual property thieves. That hasnt changed. She even admitted that much in all her articles (ramblings) since this issue became a hot potato. For me, the biggest tragedy here is the devastating impact the restoration of her blog by Google would have on creativity in Nigeria. In the last couple of days, a perusal of those blogs and traditional newspapers notorious for heavy lifting of content from other websites reveals an attempt by them to do the right thing. Though, they should also know that attribution alone is not enough. Sadly, with the restoration of Lindas blog, they would immediately go back to their old ways and impunity would fester even more. Because most Nigerians are brainlessly sentimental, the discussion has immediately shifted from plagiarism to Mr Aye Dees alleged obsession with Linda. Id give it to her, by playing the he-is-obsessed-with-me card, Linda has proven her deep understanding of how Nigerians think. We are mostly shallow, materialistic, lovers of the pedestrian, religious fanatics and haters of everything intellectual. She played her cards well. Let the rot continue.
