Make no mistake about it, today belongs to our U16 Football - TopicsExpress

Make no mistake about it, today belongs to our U16 Football Saints, who defeated SMC for the first time at the U16 level this morning at the Yuill Family Athletic Complex. Our departing bus erupted with applause when news of the final result reached our players. Our guys are tremendously proud of their younger Andrean brothers. The Varsity Football Saints traveled to Villanova College this afternoon and defeated the Knights 26-2 on a very muddy and slick field. The Saints defence was dominant today. Led by Fraser Sopik, Walter Karabin, and Nick Grossi, as well as a swarming secondary, the defence shut out the Knights offence. Additionally, Mac Lewis and Cal Walker continue to improve each and every week and are becoming outstanding contributors on defence and special teams. Only a conceded safety by our own offence allowed the Knights to get on the scoreboard. It was a tremendous performance from the entire unit. Offensively, Jonathan Femi-Cole was once again exceptional, ripping off several long runs in the poor conditions, including an explosive 50 yard touchdown run. The aforementioned Sopik also scored a rushing touchdown. Ben Schmidt threw the ball with accuracy and precision despite a very strong wind. Ryan Keays made plays all over the field, while emerging star Will Merkel added another long reception to his resume. Andrew Biddell hauled in a nice 30 yard touchdown reception from Schmidt, and Austin Hassani had several key receptions on 2nd down to extend drives. Kicker John Polemidiotis drilled a field goal and was a perfect 3-3 on PATs to round out the scoring. The Saints will host the SMC Kerry Blues this Friday afternoon at the Yuill Family Athletic Complex. We would certainly love a large and supportive crowd in our corner.
