Make this year’s holidays special by “Giving Something That Means Something”. Now available online, our annual Holiday Giving Catalog provides symbolic gifts that represent all Red Cross lines of service, from supporting military members to feeding victims of disaster. It offers a way for people to give a gift for or in honor of a loved one during the holiday season. Through the holidays, we will be sharing posts that illustrate ways you can give help and hope to those in need through the American Red Cross. Gift #1: Military Comfort Kits Cpl. Josh Hargis was wounded when an Afghan woman detonated a suicide bomb vest in Panjwai in Kandahar Province and triggered 13 other explosive devices. The blast killed four members of Hargis 3rd Army Ranger Battalion and wounded 12 other American soldiers. Hargis went to a nearby military hospital. His numerous wounds called for him to be hooked up to a breathing tube and other medical plumbing. –Excerpt taken from USA Today. Help ease the suffering of wounded service members with military comfort kits. For an injured service member, the journey from the battlefield to the hospital can be long and uncomfortable, and many make the journey without any personal items. Help Red Cross warmly welcome them at a military hospital with comfort kits filled with most-needed items such as a robe, shower shoes, toiletries and music gift card. The cost of one military comfort kit is $50, two for $100, four for $200, ten for $500, or 20 for $1,000.
