Make your holiday season a safe and enjoyable one! Whether at home or away, follow these tips to help prevent becoming a victim of burglary: Light it up and Lock it up! For the home, light it up! Properly illuminate all points of entry, especially doorways and windows. Lighting should be used on a regular basis not just when you are away. Interior and exterior lights on timers create the illusion the home is occupied when you are away. Place exterior light fixtures out of the reach of potential burglars so they can’t unscrew the light bulb. Keep shrubbery and limbs trimmed away from light fixtures. Lock it up! Keep all doors and windows locked at home and in your vehicle. While shopping, park your vehicle in well-lit areas. Don’t leave valuables in plain sight. Keep purchases in the trunk. Thefts from vehicles can occur anywhere, from a crowded shopping facility to a single vehicle parked on a residential street. Lock it up! Always lock your doors! Light it up and lock it up while at home and away!
