Makeni Mayor Blasts Residents! By Melvin Tejan Mansaray Mayor Sunkari Kabba, Makeni City Council has issued a stern warning to all those she described as culprits in the propagation of false news that ‘Ebola has ended,’ causing the Makeni Township to be brought to a standstill until an emergency curfew was declared by the Resident Minister and authorities to forestall law and order in the chaotic scene. “The actual source of the information is not known but there are various schools of taught linking it to Okada rider’s lawlessness, jubilation for recovered Ebola patients and assurance by some Chinese Medicos and so on and so forth. However, the security and Makeni stakeholder swiftly put the situation under control within 30 minutes arresting some bike riders and sending other ordinary citizens back home. As I speak, the Makeni Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is having a meeting to discuss what happened on Monday when people took to the street shouting Ebola has ended. The message to the people of Makeni at this moment is doing not touch and curtailed interaction. However, an investigation will be carried out to assert the source of the misleading information. We have been making strides and we will not allow anybody to derail our efforts or distract our focus, we debunk that so-called Ebola has ended jubilation and will bring the unscrupulous persons behind this to book. We have managed to have three holding centers, making progress in surveillance and victims’ survival, we are making gains and this could not be derailed,” Mayor Kabba said. However, there have been condemnation over what happened in Makeni on Monday and many residents have expressed dismayed at this lawless comportment by some of the people of Makeni.
