Makes me want to SCREAM! One of Mariahs few remaining contemporaries (1994). Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory This X-ray shows the body of a Red-tailed Hawk shot recently near Riverton, WY. Seven shotgun pellets and many broken bones are visible. The hawk was received by Ironside Bird Rescue in Cody, WY, and later euthanized. Information on where the bird was shot was reported to the USFWS and Wyoming Game and Fish. This Red-tailed Hawk was banded in his second year by Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory (then Colorado Bird Observatory) back in 1995 in Berthoud, CO. Its amazing what bird banding can tell us about migration, connectivity and the longevity of birds. Were saddened to know that after 20 years, this hawks life was ended by such a senseless act.
