Makeup Tips 1. Brushes: How often do you clean your makeup brushes? In fact, have you ever cleaned them at all? If not, imagine the build up of spot causing bacteria that you apply to your face every day... 2. Primer: Applying a primer will ease the application of your foundation and help it last longer. Some can help fill in and smooth over fine lines and enlarged pores, giving your complexion a smoother finish. 3. Foundation: Choosing the right shade of foundation is important to avoid the ‘mask’ effect or even worse – looking orange! Always sample on your jaw line and NOT the back of your hand to ensure you select a shade which matches the skin on your face. 4. Tinted moisturisers with added SPF15 can be a godsend in the height of summer and whilst on your holidays. Heavy makeup can be uncomfortable in the heat and is easily sweated off, so a lighter formula is easier to wear, with added protection from the sun preserving the condition of your skin in the long run. 5. Blush: This can be tricky and it is easy to go overboard and end up looking like a clown! Rose colours are great for fair skin, peach colours for olive skin, apricot/red for dark skin. Apply to the apples of your cheeks (smile to find them) with a medium brush and sweep one way only – not round or back and forth. 6. Eye shadow: Avoid darker colours on your eye lids, this will make you look tired. Instead use a medium shade on the lids with a darker shade above, on the crease up to the brow bone. A lighter shade should be used on the brow bone (underneath the eyebrow) and also on the inside corners to create a highlighting effect. 7. Mascara: Avoid pumping your mascara wand to avoid it drying out. If using more than one coat, leave to dry for a minute or two or you may end up with clumps! 8. Lips: Create a primed surface by using a lip scrub to remove dead skin. After applying your lipstick, put your finger between your lips and pull it out again, thus wiping off the excess and avoiding that unsightly smudge on your teeth! 9. Translucent powder: Applying a translucent powder as your final makeup step will set it in place and help it last all day, absorb excess oil preventing unwanted shine from returning. 10. Remember girls – makeup goes off! You should renew your makeup once yearly if possible, and mascara every 3 months! Always check the packaging for ‘use by’ dates. 11. Switch to mineral makeup – it’s free of harmful chemicals and better for your skin. It does not block your pores reducing the risk of breakouts and will give you a radiant, flawless finish. 12. Quite simply – less is more!
