Making Jawar a topic of discussion beyond this point amounts to bestowing him a political weight that he never had. To start with, Jawar was an OLF sympathizer who used to shout “Ethiopia out of Oromia” in a televised public rally. Slowly, his political activism evolved and became an active participant at the national political scene, writing on facebook to a predominantly Ethiopian audience, featuring on national radio and television debates, and guest speaking in town halls meetings. Many took his vibrant activism at the national political scene seriously and offered him their unreserved support. I was part of this group. People saw him as a promising interlocutor, someone who can bridge the long standing divide between OLF sympathizers and those who believe in the unity of Ethiopia. Now it seems he decided to recess back to his original enclave. I think we should wish him the best of luck in his new role and turn our face to other, more pressing issues.
