Making an attempt to stay clean from plot spoilers and big mouths I started Season 3 of American Horror Story last night without any idea that there is a voodoo subplot- which is awesome. Queenie is a living voodoo doll- a witch from a New Orleans sect who can inflict pain on others by subjecting her own body to various and inspirational pinnings and spells. In one she holds a knife up to her neck and threatens her friend... who smartly backs off. So the show has basically followed the lead of other incredibly popular politically incorrect art forms from South Park to Django- exploring race and gender distortions with an eye on history. Its a lot of pageantry, some of it intriguing, some of it too obvious, and for those of you who need meaning in everything you do and see, this is a ride, not an art exhibit or great novel. Still, after the first episode if you can get beyond the cheeky stereotyping, and get over yourself in the process, youll enjoy the spectacle of it all. Just watching Kathy Bates use a shaving brush to spread human blood from an antique silver pot all over her face as a skin tightener is worth an hour on Netflix tonight.
