Making and Keeping your resolutions Making a resolution is easy in comparison to keeping it. Many resolutions involve a change in lifestyle and sometimes it is very hard to break habits and to live in a new way. Maybe you have started to exercise more or to stop eating chocolate or making sure that you take more time for friends and family members. That is a good thing. Keep it up. John the Baptist came to call people to repentance to not only have a change of heart but a change of life. When he called them to repentance the people asked what could they do. John told them to live a new life. Faith in Jesus by itself without works is dead. Faith in Jesus always produces good works. They go together. Faith in Jesus saves but that faith changes the heart and helps us each day to live a new life before God in righteousness and holiness. May the Spirit of God live in you so that you seek to do Gods will in your life every day. When we fall short take heart knowing that Jesus came to forgive sin and give us a new day to live in Gods grace and mercy. Luke 3:7 John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, We have Abraham as our father. For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 9 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. 10 What should we do then? the crowd asked. 11 John answered, The man with two tunics should share with him who has none, and the one who has food should do the same. 12 Tax collectors also came to be baptized. Teacher, they asked, what should we do? 13 Dont collect any more than you are required to, he told them. 14 Then some soldiers asked him, And what should we do? He replied, Dont extort money and dont accuse people falsely-- be content with your pay.
