Making art around the holiday season isnt really a tradition set in stone for me; its just been a convenient window of time in the past few years to get work done. Two of these collages were made from old prints, the others were assembled in a few days out of images taken from magazines. Its a fun, intuitive way to make an image, which could be compared to having a dream in the r.e.m. sleep stage. Similar to the way a brain collects random and significant pieces of imagery during various moments throughout the day & re-mixes them into a new narrative during sleep, collaging emulates this activity in my mind, instead producing a physical picture that often reveals its meaning later, or not. Either way, its way more fun than going outdoors on Black Friday. - Pat
