Making the Sign of the Cross with reverence will itself open a gateway to Heaven. But, its quite disappointing to see most Christians/ Catholics making the sign of the Cross so poorly and irreverently. With reference to the sign of the Cross, one good example is of St. Bernadette Soubirous- to whom the Blessed Virgin appeared 18 times. No Saint has been Blessed by so many apparitions from Our lady. People use to flock to her convent , requesting her to demonstrate how Our Lady made the Sign of the Cross . Our Blessed Virgin made it slowly and reverently, raising her right hand so that her fingers touched to the very top of her forehead, then lowering her hands to touch her waist, and then slowly touching the extreme of her left shoulder followed by her right. Furthermore, our Holy Catholic Church has granted partial indulgences to those who make the Sign of the Cross reverently. Here, are some of the Saints who displayed the Grace through the sign of the cross viz. St. Anthony the Abbot; St. Clare; St. Anthony of Padua; St. Padre Pio; St. Francis of Assisi; St. Francis Xavier ... All the Saints have offered their reverence to the Most Holy Trinity by tracing the Sign of the Cross with reverence. P.S. Next time , you make the Sign of the Cross , remember this ! Dont make it hastily ,as if you are trying to get rid of the itch off of your body.
