Malajila makes early noise It was Sundowns’ last match of their two week training camp in Ghana where they played four matches, winning three, including a 2-0 beating giants Asante Kotoko on Sunday and a 1-1 draw against former African champions Hearts of Oak. The former Chapungu, Highlanders and Dynamos striker, who joined the well sponsored team last month, opened his scoring account for his new team when he turned in a cross from Antony Laffor in the first period. He got his second of the match in the second half when he swept home a pass from Bongani Zungu, who also joined Sundowns in the current transfer window. The 27-year-old, who had a sterling season with Maritzburg United last year where he scored 12 goals to finish third on the Golden Boot race before swapping with Sundowns in adeal rumoured to be well over 5 million rands, is expected to lead the team’s attack in the upcoming season. Malajila was signed by Sundowns as a direct replacement for fellow Warriors striker Nyasha Mushekwi, who has joined a Belgian club on a one year loan. The arrival of new faces at the club, particularly Malajila, has been viewedas a formidable statement of intent by Sundowns who finished a disappointing eighth on the Absa Premiership last season. There is no doubt Malajila will attract much attention when Sundowns travel to Rodreck Mutuma’s Bloemfontein in their first match of the season next week. Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has promised a new look approach for the coming campaign, and the former South African national team coach said he wanted the trip to West Africa to provide his team with tough opponents and uncomfortable conditions to best prepare for the new season.
