Malak Aman Kasi was one of the last radical Pashtun Nationalists. In many gatherings with him, he asserted that not more than FREEDOM from Pakistani state and UNIFICATION with Afghanistan can ensure peace, progress, independence and tranquility in the lives of Pashtuns. Pashtuns will further suffer if they remain part of Pakistan. As such, a rare voice! He supported Bacha Khan. He remained in jail with Wali Khan and was a close supporter of Samad Khan Shaeed. In the last few years, as i met with him many times, he was critical of political strategies of Pashtun nationalist parties. He didnt hesitate in pointing the weaknesses of ANP and PMAP. Apart from his critic, whenever he thought he is needed, he tried to infuse ideas and principles of freedom in ANP and PMAP. Sometimes it seemed to me that he was isolated from the mainstream Pashtun Nationalist parties of Pakistan. Personally, I found him extremely uncompromising and hopeful. In his individuality one could see a mighty source of collective determinism as he was ready each time when he was asked for his thoughts and services. RIP Malak Aman Kasi!
