Malaria infects about 48,000 persons in Guyana annually, and kills hundreds, probably thousands. Typhoid and dengue also kill Guyanese in unbelievable numbers. Deaths among city-based interior workers occasionally make the news. But only rarely. Infections and deaths among Indigenous Guyanese are never reported. And our Guyanese brothers and sisters are buried without fanfare. Tens of thousands of cases of malaria, typhoid and dengue; hundreds of deaths. There has never been a case of ebola in Guyana. Yet, our reporters and politicians are going nuts on the scare bandwagon. Is there something wrong with this picture?
