Malawi media institutions, and NGOs like the CEDEP and CHRR do not - TopicsExpress

Malawi media institutions, and NGOs like the CEDEP and CHRR do not know what press freedom or media independence means or they pretend not to know. Press freedom does not in away mean that the media is free to report lies or report continuously negative against government, and expect government not to respond. it does not even mean that state owned broadcasters are free to continuously report negatively about the opposition in favor of government of the day either- i must say that too. Press freedom means the media ( state-owned and private) have the RESPONSIBILITY and OBLIGATION to report accurately, timely and fairly. No traces of bias, falsehood, and reluctance must exist in both the state-owned and private media institutions. should any of the media report falsely or with bias, it is the DUTY of government, as much as the DUTY of the CSOs and any citizen to censure the media for abuse of press freedom. What surprises me is that when the private media, reports falsely or negatively against government, the CSOs do not respond to such abuse of press freedom, but when government responds to media attacks, they censure government against interference with press freedom.
