Ndalama Zakuba Zija Agulira munda ku Mchinji By Innocett Mawaya In what can be best described as one of Malawi’s biggest high level theft and corruption, Malawi’s outgoing President Joyce Hilda Mtila Banda, has purchased what analysts have indicated as probably the country’s biggest farm lands, we can confidently reveal. The property situated on the outskirts of the administrative capital, Lilongwe is estimated by land experts to be worth MK7 billion. The experts say without any doubt, this is one of Malawi’s biggest single piece of farm land. This latest purchase by outgoing President Joyce Banda stretches from Namitete in Lilongwe to Mchinji. A land and valuation expert based in Lilongwe but with full knowledge of this massive piece of land in question having worked there with the late owner said it was worth not less than MK7 billion. According to sell agreement documents in our possession, outgoing President Joyce Banda purchased the land from the Ashani family and the sell included the land and all facilities within the farm land. Parts of this massive farm land now owned by the Banda family are rivers and dams. The late Ashani was one of Malawi’s richest men before his death about 7 years ago. So far, outgoing President Joyce Hilda Mtila has transferred 200 cows to this newly found property. In Mchinji the main facilities of the farm are situated in Thyolansana Village in Traditional Authority Mavwere’s area. During our investigation, we visited the farm last week. We took the turn opposite the Macpherson Farm and drove for about 12 kilometers before reaching the facility. We did not request for permission to enter the farm gates to avoid blowing off our mission and for fear of being caught without exposing this kind of massive abuse by outgoing President Joyce Banda. On our way to and from the farm, we found Malawi government graders clearing the road to the facility which is yet another abuse of government resources. OTHER JOYCE BANDA PROPERTIES President Joyce Hilda Mtila Banda who was facing bankruptcy before taking over power in April, 2012 has grown to become one of Malawi’s richest personalities with properties both locally and beyond. At Stella Maris here in Blantyre, she has over 80 rental houses that have been constructed in the last two years she has been in power. In Lilongwe, her properties include a new and modern filling Station and some of the properties are hidden in foreign countries including Scotland, Mauritius and South Africa among other countries. She is currently fighting tooth and nail to ensure that she wins the next Presidential polls otherwise she will face serious prosecution from the next government. During her two years stay in power, outgoing President Joyce Banda has presided over massive abuse of donor and taxpayers money by government and senior party officials close to Mrs. Banda a development which led to the donors withholding aid towards this Southern African country’s budget.
