Malay right-wing group Perkasa has not taken lightly to Tan Keng Liang’s sentiments about the former’s president Datuk Ibrahim Ali. On Friday, Ibrahim reportedly said that he would not vote for Barisan Nasional in the next general election if Putrajaya was still adamant about repealing the Sedition Act. The former Pasir Mas parliamentarian said he would not hesitate to do so because the government’s stand would make Umno-BN akin to the Opposition. To this, Tan expressed his joy and said if Ibrahim did retract his support, it would be time to celebrate because Gerakan did not agree with his views. Tan went on to urge Perkasa to vote for Pakatan, arguing that for every vote given to the Opposition coalition, it was “hundred votes for BN.” Perkasa Youth chief Irwan Fahmi Idris, in a statement, told the Gerakan Youth leader that he was not in the position to “advise” Perkasa because the party failed in the last general election. “Perkasa Youth urges Gerakan Youth to keep quiet and stop babbling because your party has failed to convince your own race, evident from GE13. “Your party was rejected by Penangites, who have fallen in the hands of DAP.” Irwan warned Gerakan Youth against advising Perkasa members who were all voters, adding that many Malays also voted for BN component parties. He added that Gerakan was also a burden to Malay supremacy. “It is better that you work on regaining the trust of your own race first. Don’t be a thorn in the flesh. “Respect the existing Constitution and the social contract that was agreed to by your forefathers.” Tan, however, did not seem bothered about Perkasa’s reprimand, even re-tweeting the statement with a winking and smiling emoticon therakyatpost/news/2014/09/07/gerakan-thorn-flesh-says-perkasa-youth/
