Malaysia Airlines Says It Lost Contact With One of Its Planes Flight MH370 Left Kuala Lumpur Carrying 227 Passengers and 12 Crew to Beijing By JASON NG And GAURAV RAGHUVANSHI Malaysian Airline System Bhd, the national flag carrier, said Saturday it has lost contact with one of its planes carrying 239 people to China. Flight MH370, a Boeing 777-200 aircraft, departed from Kuala Lumpur 12:41 a.m. local time with 227 passengers and 12 crew members, and was scheduled to land in Beijing at 6:30 a.m., Malaysian Airline System said in a statement. Malaysia Airlines is currently working with the authorities who have activated their search and rescue team to locate the aircraft, the airline added. Chinas Civil Aviation Administration confirmed early Saturday that contact with the plane had been lost, Xinhua news agency reported. Malaysia Airlines took delivery of its first 777-200ER in 1997 and was in the midst of an evaluation of new Boeing and Airbus Group NV jetliners to replace the aging 777s in its fleet with newer more-efficient models. Boeing in a tweeted statement said it is closely monitoring reports on Malaysia flight MH370.
