Male House Finch perched on Swamp tupelo tree branch in the SouthWood Community, Tallahassee, Florida. House Finches are non-native birds recently introduced from western into eastern North America. They have received a warmer reception than other arrivals such as European Starlings and House Sparrows. That’s partly due to the cheerful red head and breast of male House Finches, and to their rapid, cheery warble and a variety of chirps. They are common visitors to backyard bird feeders.
