Male staff carries out ECG tests on women patients in SMHS CMO thrashed attendant for raising objection Medical Superintendent Dr Nazir Chouhri hung up the phone by saying that hospital has no time to arrange female staff for ECG tests for women patients. Scores of attendants at SMHS Hospital Saturday were shocked to see Chief Medical Officer thrashing a young attendant from Batamaloo Srinagar. “Arrest this idiot. Now he will teach us how to manage the hospital,” CMO Dr Irfan pointing towards security guards said. “After feeling some chest pain, I admitted my mother in the hospital under MRD number 768105 while the doctors attending her prescribed electrocardiogram (ECG) for her. The electrocardiogram is commonly used to detect abnormal heart rhythms and to investigate the cause of chest pains. My mother felt uncomfortable after she found no lady available in the hospital to carry out ECG test. She refused to undress herself and I simply walked into the chamber of Chief Medical Officer Dr Irfan to request him to arrange a female staffer to carry out ECG test of my mother,” the attendant Omar from Batamaloo Srinagar told CNS adding that his words irritated CMO while misusing his position and power he not only threatened him but also thrashed him. “I did not retaliate. I didn’t give him a chance to file a case against me but it is shocking male staffers have been assigned the duty to carry out ECG tests on females,” he said. CMO, SMHS hospital denied that he thrashed anyone and hung up the phone while Medical Superintendent Dr Nazir Chouhri also hung up the phone by saying that hospital has no time to arrange female staff for ECG tests for women patients.
