Maligayang Putukan! its the time of the year, that turns to another year. which usually, drives people like me to play the entire 1812 overture. its not about the fab fours All You Need Is Love hit. its about the cannon part which i love, a notch higher, than most of the P.I.T.s masterpiece. Now, La Marseillaise is heard in counterpoint to the folk music as the great armies clash on the plains west of Moscow, and Moscow burns...the hymn O Lord, Save Thy People that opens the piece is heard again...bringing an unprecedented deep freeze the French cannot bear (the winter winds blow in the music). The French attempt to retreat, but their guns, stuck in the freezing ground, are captured by the Russians and turned against them. Finally, the guns are fired in celebration and church bells all across the land peal in grateful honor of their deliverance. celebrating the New Year in 11 hours.
