Mals Scoop analysis £125,000 estimated Win Fund £25,000 estimated Bonus Fund Leg 1 (1.15 Cheltenham): Two of the last eleven winners of this event went on to win the discarded Cathcart Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, whilst the 2005 winner (Lacdoudal) finished second in the inaugural running of the ‘Jewson’. The winner five years ago was Ping Pong Sivola who went on to finish second best to stable companion Something Wells in the ‘Freddie Williams’ whilst the 2009 winner (Hey Big Spender) was still going really well in the ‘Jewson‘ when exiting the contest. The 2012 winner Bless The Wings ran tenth in Hunt Ball’s contest, before the 2013 gold medallist Vino Griego ran second in the Byrne Group Plate at the Festival at odds of 11/1. Last years winner was made 7/2 favourite for the Kim Muir but finished down the field. Venetia Williams has saddled three of the last ten winners of the race and her representative this time around is ASTIGOS who holds up the runners at the foot of the handicap. Seven of the last ten winners have carried a maximum weight of 11-3 which bodes well for Venetias raider, alongside PERFECT CANDIDATE and HORATIO HORNBLOWER. The overnight reserve nomination is awarded to BLACK RIVER with the Paul Nicholls representative sitting bang on the 11-3 mark. Just one favourite has prevailed thus far, whilst ten of the last twelve favourites have finished out of the frame! Leg 2 (1.30 Doncaster): Both (3/1) favourites have finished out with the washing to date. Dan Skeltons SEA CURRENT appeals making his handicap debut, seemingly having been well placed by the talented trainer. The form of his third placed Warwick effort on his third assignments over fences suggests that the seven-year-old has a leading chance in this grade/company. ROYAL REGATTA and RUNSWICK ROYAL are feared most. Leg 3 (2.25 Cheltenham): Four recent winners of this race went on to contest what was then the ‘Mildmay Of Flete’ (now the Racing Post Plate) without any of the scorers finishing in the frame at the Festival. Ten of the eleven horses that contested races at the Festival after winning this event finished out with the washing. Beaten favourite EASTER DAY makes most appeal, though others in the mix include DARE ME and SEW ON TIME from the in form Colin Tizzard yard. Six of the seventeen favourites have won to date, offering punters a profit of £1,062.50 to one hundred pound level stakes. Ten of the seventeen market leaders have claimed toteplacepot positions. Leg 4 (3.00 Cheltenham): Six-year-olds have claimedsixteen toteplacepot positions via nine renewals to date, vintage representatives having won five of the last six contests! The vintage looks best represented by VAGO COLLONGES and VALUE AT RISK on this occasion. Course and distance winner (albeit on different occasions) PRESENT VIEW is the potential spoiler in the line up from my viewpoint. Seven of the nine favourites have secured toteplacepot positions, statistics which include three winners. Leg 5 (3.15 Doncaster*): 25/1 & 12/1 winners have emerged via the last two contests and with a 16/1 outsider having won back in 2006, the form book should not be the only way of looking at this event. Six of the seven winners during the last decade have carried no more than 11-2 which reduces the field down from fourteen down to eight if you take the statistics into account, IF IN DOUBT, LOST LEGEND and FAIRY RATH could be short listed accordingly. The speculative reserve nomination is awarded to YES TOM. Leg 6 (4.10 Cheltenham): Two clear market leaders and one co favourite have won to date via eight renewals. whilst the last seven winners have carried a maximum burden of 10-12. Runners down the handicap to consider this time around include LIGHT ENTERTAINMENT and MINSTRELS GALLERY though if the weight trends are breached on this occasion, DIAMOND KING could prove to be the culprit. * The 3.15 at Doncaster is todays bonus race with one ticket attempting to secure the £145,271 pot - if they dont in - you could next week if you play todays £2.00 Scoop6!
