Mama Bossypants here with a monthly update. Yesterday was 1 year since Benny was diagnosed with bladder cancer (Transitional Cell Carcinoma). When he was diagnosed, he was feeling pretty bad. I didnt even think he would make it to the 6 months prognosis. We are incredibly thankful that we have received the gift of Benny for a whole year! Last month when I wrote, he wasnt doing so well, so I am happy to report that he seems to be feeling better again. The antibiotics and adding some pain meds seemed to work. His bucket list of going in the car every day has really perked him up, since he doesnt have as much energy to go on long walks any more. He has learned to play on our sympathy and has become ridiculously spoiled and asks for a treat for everything he does. We, of course, do not refuse. He really is a gentle sweetheart. Biggie is pretty stable now also. Were dealing with a pesky infection on his chin, but otherwise hes doing ok. He hasnt had any more strange, out-of-it episodes. We are keeping him close to home which seems to help him feel less anxious and more secure. We have to constantly keep Benny and him separated, but weve got the routine down and both of them seem happier. Weve decided not to take Biggie to the upcoming Corgi Gathering, which is a bummer. (Last year, he won 2nd prize in the costume contest!) But it will be better for him and more relaxing for us, as he gets extremely agitated around other dogs now. Our life in the last year has been an emotional roller coaster with these two dogs, but we wouldnt have it any other way. We appreciate all of you coming along for the ride with us.
