Mama Lanas nightly Meal Saturday 24th January 2015 Something was in the air tonight, we had a couple of new comers that were causing some problems with our regulars but thanks to the boys and girls in blue, they were moved along with no real harm done. Tonight we welcome and thank our newest volunteer cook Natalie who prepared half of tonights meals along with the yummy creamed rice for dessert (which was a huge hit!!) while Mama Lana made the other half of the meals as well as an assortment of tasty sandwiches 😊 A big thanks again to Cathy for the refreshing fruit and the delicious scones with jam and cream that disappeared very quickly!! And also to the beautiful couple that dropped off some much needed supplies. We really appreciate the continued local support. One of our regulars who has broken his hand and awaiting surgery, needed a redressing so Papa Roger took him up to the chemist to get it seen to as well as treatment for his very sore eye. Its hard enough being homeless when they are fit and healthy but when they are sick or have ailments, it adds so much unneeded stress. 😞 Heres hoping he starts to feel better soon. Tonight also saw the launch of our Mama Lanas footpath free clothing shop! Patrons were able to choose from a range of mens and womens clothing as well as shoes. We also had some scarves, towels and blankets to give away. The patrons were really interested and grateful with many taking bags of clothes and shoes away with them. The towels and blankets went very quickly!! I have had some size requests along with a mans sports hoodie, something to keep me warm in the evening, anything pink, purple or blue and a nice dress to wear to church on Sunday. I will endeavour to fill these requests and will have a new selection of clothing and a range of childrens clothes next week! It was a real privilege to provide this new service tonight and I am so pleased that so many patrons were able to find something they needed or liked!! Last but not least, thank you to our volunteers Dee and Anna. Esther on behalf of the MLCF team.
