Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has scoffed at suggestions that former Bafana Bafana striker Katlego Mphela wants to or is set to move away from the club. Although the transfer window has now closed, and any potential move could not happen before January, the issue of Mphela’s future remains a hot topic among reporters, prompting Mosimane to move quickly to quell speculation. “Killer (Mphela’s nickname) is part of the team. He is a good player. You saw him playing the other day against Platinum Stars,” said the Sundowns coach “(Against Lamontville Golden Arrows in their last league match on Saturday) he didn’t make the final 18-man squad. We were playing away and we needed more midfielders. “It’s nothing to do with Mphela himself (when he is left out), rather it’s about the type of selection. You need to play the best team for the situations and you have to give the others a chance to play too,” added Mosimane. Mphela’s lack of game time at Sundowns, where he struggled with injury last season, has since seen him lose his place in the Bafana Bafana squad. He finished last season with just three goals from nine starts, having twice previously been crowned the top scorer in the country. [Supersport] ----- follow us @trollfootballsa on twitter
