Man, I had a blast playing at World of Beer - Syracuse, last night. I got to play for some long standing friends, from some far flung locales. Id like to send a shout out to Ryan, who was running sound for me. Though he is not necessarily a sound engineer, he listened and dialed up some great sound. he paid attention all night and remained vigilante in his task. Having house sound is awesome when it is run w a level of attention that depicts respect for the music, venue and most importantly, the audience. If a performer cannot communicate w the audience, just talk to them w out having to yell or light their hair on fire (not an option for me and do not make me start twerking!!), to simply maintain channels of communication, share stories from the road and have them hear and understand the lyrics, assuming they are singing, it is virtually impossible to impact the room and ultimately do your job. Last night was some of the best sound I can recall. It was absolutely effortless to simply play and before I knew it, I had played for 3 hours straight and managed to miss the opportunity to take a break and catch up w the folks I hadnt seen for so long but well do that when Im not playing. So thanks again to Ryan and all other sound guys n gals, who stay in the game, pay attention and do their best to provide the most vital link between musicians and their audiences. We are lost without your best effort and having a house sound system w an engineer who is jaded, burnt or indifferent, will waste the investment of the venue in their sound gear and in the outlay for the performance and most importantly, the audiences time and interest. If you let em come away thinking they just heard some crapy background music, it is very hard to get them to come back and take that chance again. We train people to care about music and participate in the process or be entirely indifferent, w our own approach. . . . please, make it fun, if you can. Teach em well about the magic of live music. . . a small form of collective joy depends on it. Thanks again t WOB, Ryan and all in attendance. It was a treat!!
