Man, I hate it when refs cheat in college football. I see bad - TopicsExpress

Man, I hate it when refs cheat in college football. I see bad calls in the NFL, from time to time, too, but I dont think that NFL refs DELIBERATELY make bad calls. I think NFL refs are pretty well supervised, and I am not of the mindset that there are crooked NFL refs. College football, though, is a whole other story. I see enough, absolutely inexplicable calls, that I cant help but think some refs are on the take, or, at least, making calls based on favoritism. Notre Dame lost to Florida State, last night, after a last second touchdown was called back, due to an offensive interference penalty. The more I read others opinions on the call, and the more I watch GIFs and replays of the call, the more convinced I become that the ref who made the call, wanted Florida State to win. I will say that ex Irish coach Lou Holtz thinks the call was fine. He thinks it was a good call. Some Irish fans, who post on Irish Sports Daily, also think it was a good call. At first, I thought it was an OK call. I listened to Kirk Herbstreit telling me that it was a legit call. I heard him say that Notre Dame player C.J. Procise was blatantly blocking the defensive player in front of him, and I figured, OK, if Kirk thinks it was that blatant, then maybe it was a good call. I dont think that anymore. I dont agree with Lou Holtz,----I dont agree with the few Notre Dame fans, who also said it was a good call, and I dont, at all, agree with Kirk Herbstreit. After watching THIS video of the play (which was never seen on TV, last night), I realize that the vast majority of Irish fans, who were screaming about what a bad call it was, last night, on the Irish Sports Daily board, were absolutely right. Rather than blocking the defensive players on the pass play, last night, Notre Dame receivers, C.J. Procise and Will Fuller were grabbed and impeded by those defenders. Those two defensive backs were trying to make sure that C.J. (number 20) and Will (number 7) had no chance of catching a pass. The guy who did catch the pass and did score a touchdown, Corey Robinson, was wide open, as nobody made much of an effort to cover him. After the touchdown was scored, you can see the Florida State defensive backs, hollering at each other, as if to say, that was YOUR guy,----why didnt you cover him”. Kirk Herbstreit said that the defensive back was screaming at the referee, but Kirk Herbstreit, as he has a tendency do, got it way wrong. The video shows the player, obviously hollering at his teammate. When all is said and done, the Irish lost a game that they actually won. The Irish are playing great football and look like a great team. Although they still have 3 very tough opponents, (along with two moderately tough) left on their schedule, and two of those very tough opponents are on the road, they could very well win the rest of their games. If they win the rest of their games, they absolutely should have a shot to play for a national championship in college footballs 4-team, national championship playoff,----BUT, all thanks to a horrible call, and very possibly, a crooked referee, they may not GET that shot. I say very possibly crooked, because I am reading that this ref is the same guy, who made an absolutely inexplicable call, against the Irish, just last year. There is a pattern with this guy. There is a trend. If you listen to ESPN, you will hear that the call was correct,----that Notre Dames players were blocking the defensive backs, but this video shows that the defensive backs initiated contact, and that the inside defensive back clearly grabs the inside Irish receiver. So two Irish receivers try to make a move toward the inside and two Seminole defensive backs try to jam them, with one defensive back going so far as to grab C.J. Procise (number 20). This is, in no way, a “pick play”, that justifies an offensive interference call. The guy who was trying to defend Corey Robinson (number 88), who caught the touchdown pass was never blocked,---never picked. The one or two defensive backs, who were allegedly blocked, were actually trying to block the Notre Dame receivers from getting open, in the end zone. That really could not be more clear. A fellow Irish fan sums it up pretty nicely. He says: “It was not a pick play! A pick play is designed to pick the defender of the target receiver. Nobody picked Robinsons defender!” “Lets be clear - it was man to man coverage.” “Procise is being held after the DB engaged him off the line.” “Fuller is jammed by his man who initiated the contact.” “Battling the man defending you is not offensive pass interference. Just imagine if the ball was thrown to the left side of the field - more obvious a no call, right?” “The job of those 2 DBs was to jam the WRs and prevent them from running slants inside. Neither of them were assigned to or cared about Robinson.” “The DB covering Robinson was a safety and was nowhere close to Robinson because (a) Robinson lined up deeper and ran a route outside, and (b) the traffic created by the DBs jamming Procise and Fuller.” “If Procise or Fuller ran at Robinsons defender, then and only then should offensive pass interference been called.” Another Irish fan adds more clarity to the offensive interference “pick play” rule: “Leaving aside the “who grabbed who first” aspect of this play, in order for it to be a pick you have to pick a player trying to cover a receiver other than your self. You cant by definition pick a player who is trying to cover you. Bad call end of story.” The call was so bad, that you can even see the head referee, asking the guy who threw the flag,----”Are you sure you want to make that call”. Just a horrible, horrible call, that may very well cost a deserving team, a shot at the national championship. More than teams cheating the system, by paying their players, crooked refs are what I hate most about college football. College football is, by far, my favorite sport, and there are so many great things about it, but crooked refs,---man, those memories of horrible calls last forever. I dont know if anyone is going to read this post, but I had to get it off my chest....;-). I hope, at least, that you, Ron, take the time to read this and watch the video. WE GOT SCREWED, MAN!....;-). https://youtube/watch?v=vlX8EhpzwO4
