Man United are preparing a last ditch move to sign Tottenham attacker Gareth Bale, who had looked certain to make his long awaited move to Real Madrid. Sports Direct News claim David Moyes is ready to make an offer of £85m for the 24 year old Welsh international, a move that would be a real statement of intent from the Premier League title holders. The move would represent a massive £50m increase on the club’s current transfer record, which also saw Man United raid Tottenham, on that occasion to sign Bulgarian Dimitar Berbatov for a £30m fee back in September 2008. Man United are also willing to match Real Madrid’s £300k a week salary offer which could leave Gareth Bale re-considering a potential move to the Bernabeu. A move to Old Trafford would offer the former Southampton man the chance to emulate boyhood hero Ryan Giggs. Real Madrid had hoped to use wing-back Fabio Coentrao as part of their bid for Gareth Bale, an offer that Tottenham were seemingly not all that keen on and the issues related to the La Liga side’s wish to pay in installments is another factor holding up progress on the deal. Therefore if Man United make a straight cash offer and do so with the carrot of offering to pay in one lump sum then Tottenham may elect to accept the bid from their Premier League compatriots. Moyes is still to make a high-profile signing as Man United boss and could see Bale as the ideal first capture, one that could offer the club an alternative goal-scoring avenue and could perhaps be seen as a replacement for Wayne Rooney.
