Man Up Day 11 – The other day I was in a library when I heard - TopicsExpress

Man Up Day 11 – The other day I was in a library when I heard screaming from across the room. A young child was throwing a tantrum. You could hear the screams of “I hate you!” travel out the door and the parent calmly remove the child to their vehicle. I both felt sympathy for that parent and was impressed by how calm they kept while not giving in to the child’s unreasonable demands. Today we transition to a man’s role as a father. We are given some very specific instructions in this role starting with – Colossians 3:21 – Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. I have seen a few heavy handed parents, including my own step-father. I have also seen many more uninvolved fathers who leave most of the upbringing to the mothers. Our kids desperately need their fathers. We need to be involved but not so heavy handed that our kids grow up in fear or anger. If you are a dad, I urge you to do everything you can to stay involved in your kids’ lives daily. Act in love and back off when you are angry or frustrated. If you have anger issues, for the sake of your kids, deal with it so you can stay involved. For you who, like me, are single dads, make the extra effort to get and keep shared custody. During that time give your kids your full attention!! (Can you tell I feel passionate about this?) For you guys who do not have kids, that does not mean that you cannot help parent. There are many kids who are in need of mentors. Be that strong male role model for them.
