Man. Weber State did the Independent party candidates dirty. In case you didnt know, there was a Republican/Democrat debate going on inside the Shepard Union Building. The four Independent candidates werent invited,(according to the University) but they were welcome to distribute their fliers and speak to the students as long as they were at the back of the Union building and they didnt stray from the location they were supposed to be. I saw 2 police officers patrolling the area just to make sure the Independent candidates stayed in their designated spot. The back of the building doesnt provide a lot of visibility for the candidates. Needless to say that Weber State made sure they stayed out of sight and out of mind and it was executed in an elaborate fashion. Utah is a very Republican state and god forbid any other candidate (outside of the Democratic party) have any say about anything because they dont stand a chance. I just find it interesting that the four independent party candidates were shut out like that, especially at a publicly funded university. Then again, Im not surprised.
