Man and woman fit together; like water and thirst. When they meet, - TopicsExpress

Man and woman fit together; like water and thirst. When they meet, they are everything - but alone we are nothing. Im moved to talk about this today because though I am a progressive, self-sufficient woman, but I do not identify as independent. There seems to be a raging argument about whether an independent woman is a good thing but before we can conclude that, we should clearly define the terms we are throwing around. Self-sufficient is defined as 1: able to maintain oneself without outside aid : capable of providing for ones own needs 2: having an extreme confidence in ones own ability or worth. Independent is defined as 1a: not subject to control by others : self-governing : not affiliated with a larger controlling unit 1b: not requiring or relying on something else : not looking to others for ones opinions or for guidance in conduct 1c: not requiring or relying on others (as for care or livelihood) : being enough to free one from the necessity of working for a living. Ok, now lets break it down. I AM under the control of God, I am affiliated with a larger unit, I do require others in my life to guide me and help me decide my conduct, and I work for a living - therefore I am NOT independent!! (So next time you get ready to spit those words out ladies, think about it!) I define myself as an INTERDEPENDENT woman under God, relying on the man in my life (father, brother, or husband) , and I lean on the friends I hold dear when troubled times stir. While I exist outside of marriage, I will continue to be self-sufficient in that I can keep shelter, food, and basic necessities with the toil of my own two hands. But not mistaken about my worth - I know the man who will call me wife will also know wealth and well-being because it will be my roll to toil with him as he sees fit and to nurture and fortify him to his best self so he can achieve even more than he dares to dream right now. So my motto is not is the independent nature, but of the loving self-sufficiency that all human beings are tasked to develop before they can build with a team. Yes indeed, I am woman, feel my warmth and hear my laughter!!
