Man arrested in assault attempts to disarm police of taser Just before midnight on September 27, 2014, Lloydminster RCMP responded to multiple calls of an assault occurring in the 3800 block of 52 Avenue. RCMP attended the scene, forcibly entered the residence as the assault was still in progress, and located a man on the balcony. The man would not follow direction from police and became aggressive. RCMP utilized Police Dog Services in effort to arrest the man, however the man fought with members and the police dog, ignoring the continuous direction to comply with police. A conductive energy weapon (CEW) was utilized to assist with the apprehension of the man. The man attempted to gain control of the CEW from the police officer, however was unsuccessful and subsequently arrested. A 33 year old Lloydminster man has been charged with Assault with a Weapon, Assault, Assaulting a Peace Officer, Disarming a Peace Officer, Cruelty to Animals, and Resisting Peace Officer. A hearing was conducted for the man, resulting in his detention until October 7, 2014, where he will appear in Alberta Provincial Court. Officers are trained to use the least amount of force as necessary, however in attempt to subdue this subject his behaviour proved to be less than cooperative, said Constable Kirzinger. Due to the reduced compliance, officers made an informed decision; and felt it was necessary, and appropriate to deploy the conducted energy weapon, commonly referred to as the taser, to reduce the risk of injury to everyone involved.
