Man dies in kite surfing accident Madelaine Laubscher A 40 year-old man on a kite surfing expedition died on Monday at the Walvis Bay lagoon when he got entangled in the ropes of his kite. The fatal accident occurred at around 15h30. Nampol Deputy Commissioner, Ottilie Kashuupulwa who confirmed the incident said the deceased, Mr Christian Lerch was dragged under the water as the wind carried him across the water surface and drowned in the process. His next of kin have been informed. When the Namib Times visited the scene on Monday, members of the police, the Walvis Bay Neighbourhood Watch, Lifelink ambulance crew and catamaran charters were present to offer assistance. They retrieved the deceased’s body from one of the islands on the Walvis Bay lagoon.
