Man posts live video of him drowning cat in Nagano river Nagano prefectural police on Monday arrested a 29-year-old man on charges of violating animal cruelty laws after it was discovered that he had posted an online video in which he drowned a cat in a river. Police said the suspect has admitted to the crime. According to the man, on the evening of June 29, he filmed himself with his smartphone while he held a cat in a cage and submerged it in a river, Sports Nippon reported. Afterwards, he uploaded the 15-minute video online. The suspect was quoted by police as saying he killed the cat because he had become frustrated following a series of incidents in which various cats had ruined his garden, and invaded his home and gotten into his food, Sports Nippon reported. He told police he wanted to eradicate the local feline population. The man uploaded the video onto a website on which he had already posted various videos and pictures showing what life was like in his rural town. “I wanted to show that one could eradicate these pesky felines. I recognize that uploading that clip was brash, and I’ve since reflected on the callousness of my actions,” he was quoted as saying. Police said they were alerted to the incident after someone saw the video online and contacted them. The man also received a lot of negative comments following the posting.
