Man, sometimes I just get annoyed with music critics - jazz - TopicsExpress

Man, sometimes I just get annoyed with music critics - jazz critics in particular. It requires more historical knowledge, as well as technical knowledge, than most of them in the market do. Look at all the critics that shit on James Carter - claiming that hes just a middle-aged man that hits keys with his improv cutting matches. The fact of the matter is that James Carter has a very ironclad understanding of the saxophones versatility - and can execute an astounding number of techniques that many cats struggle to do. When hes just biting his reed, or just hitting keys, there are five or six techniques he might be using to create that flurry of sound that is alarming to hear from your typical horn. I find it funny for critics to alienate his style, when the very same critic would say that Jazz is an interpretive and expressive art form - which it very much is! To set borders on avant-garde players and scold them for being too out there is frankly rather foolish; youre putting blocks in your mind that will stop you from discovering exactly what Jazz can and will evolve into one day! Music is all about exploring and finding what speaks of your humanity - once you understand that, nothing a cat plays you will sound like just noise. Once you know how to do, its time to learn how to feel and try.
