Managed to get a private feed so watched the whole thing from 3.30 am this morning. The boys were there shorts n all even in some horrendous down pours. Team Kagayama Takes Third At Suzuka & SERT Tops Regular EWC Squads The long-haul Suzuka 8 Hours that is the second round of the FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) was run today with local squad Team Kagyama & Verity taking third place overall, an impressive result in the ultra-competitive event local to the Japanese manufacturers. Alongside superbike legends Yukio Kagayama and Noriyuki Haga, Dominique Aegerter rode to the podium finish just two weeks after his first Moto2 victory. The race was delayed and shortened because of heavy rain as the start was scheduled with riders then starting on wet tyres in the light rain. After drying a heavy shower meant a second round of relays on wet tyres but the race was then dry to the end. The wet tyre use meant that there were effectively no tyre restrictions due to sufficient slicks available for single stinting if the teams wished. Of the regular EWC contenders the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT) scored the most points by finishing eighth, crucially ahead of championship rivals, after failing to finish the first round. Dominic Cudlin stood in for the injured Vincent Philippe with Anthony Delhalle and Erwan Nigon also onboard. Honda Racing was the highest regular EWC qualifying team, starting the race in seventh. An electrical problem dropped the squad down to 60th and a valiant climb in the remaining hours saw them cross the line in 33rd. Team R2CL finished 19th with Team Motors Events April Moto finishing 25th on their first attempt. Peter Chapman, Dunlop EWC Race Coordinator: Congratulations to Team Kagayama for a great race. It’s good to see Dominique have another great finish after his recent first Moto2 win. As always Suzuka is a tough one for the European teams but we must say a big thank you to Dunlop Japan for their help and support with the bespoke rear tyres which were superb and played a part in the great results for the works bikes and Team Kagayama. “The standard here made it as tough as ever and as always it is very difficult for the European teams to make the top ten. Honda could easily have made it into the top six if it wasn’t for the electrical problem – they had great pace this weekend. R2CL and Motors Events both ran the latest UK development tyres, choosing to double stint for the first time at this event. That saved time in the pits and helped prepare for next year’s even tighter tyre restrictions. It was a very good effort from Motors Event for their first time here.”
