Management Forester (silverculture) Sappi Career Opportinity (Grade 8) Forestry - Twello(Montrose) Barberton District, MPU Purpose of the job To plan, execute and achieve the operational estate management objectives and targets for fibre production within resource and SHEQ parameters to ensure sustainable fibre supply. Reporting to: the Forestry Manager Main Responsibilities Re-establishment ◦Plan the re-establishment program (planting and coppice regeneration), place the plant order with Nurseries, and execute to achieve Temporary Unplanted targets within budget constraints ◦Ensure maximum stocking within silviculture standards is achieved ◦Inspect operations regularly to identify risks and ensure that timeous action (blanking and pest control, coppice management) ◦Ensure all operations comply with service level agreement. Crop Maintenance ◦Plan and conduct regular field inspections to ensure that crops, through the timing of operations (weed control, pest and disease management), achieve maximum yields within cost constraints ◦Ensure all operations comply with service level agreement. Fire protection ◦Ensure that plantations use the Fire Risk Management System to identify risks, record and implement fire control procedures in order to ensure the effective protection of people, plantation and other assets from forest fires ◦Ensure that all resources are ready and available to immediately respond in the event of fire. Alien Plant Control ◦Develop a tactical plan and ensure that the Annual Plan of Operations for both commercial and open areas comply with standards and service level agreements. Infrastructure and Fleet management ◦Ensure that company assets such as buildings, villages and company houses are maintained and managed effectively according to set standards (hygiene and legal compliance) within budget constraints. ◦Ensure that the vehicle fleet is maintained and managed according to the terms and conditions of the lease agreement, Sappi guidelines and budget ◦Ensure the implementation of the integrated tactical road maintenance plan, involving all functional areas. Stakeholder relations ◦Ensure that relations with communities and other internal and external stakeholders are effectively maintained and managed in order to ensure company image is upheld, risks mitigated and relationships enhanced. Contractor management ◦Ensure that a professional relationship with contractors in maintained and ensure that quality, delivery and compliance standards as set out in the job instruction system and service level agreement are adhered to. Policies and Procedures ◦Comply with legislative and company policies and procedures. People Management ◦Lead and performance manager subordinates to attain objectives ◦Provide coaching support to subordinates in order to facilitate realistic career paths through Personal Development Plans.
