Manaslu Trek: As most of you know I’m taking a late break in Nepal over the next few weeks. I’ll be finishing work shortly before heading to the hairdressers for a holiday haircut I.e. a number 1 all over or shorter; then off to the hotel at Manchester Airport ready for my flight tomorrow. Pictures show some of the items that are required for a long trek in Nepal. The backpack currently contains only photographic gear i.e. DSLR, battery pack plus spare batteries, 3 lenses, 8 32GB memory cards etc. and is over the 7kg hand luggage allowance. Also I’ve listed a brief itinerary below: Oct 24: Start holiday Airport hotel Oct 25/26: Fly from Manchester to Doha / Doha to Kathmandu arrive (08:30 local time). Oct 26/27: Sightsee around Kathmandu and take lots of photographs. Oct 28: Drive to the village of Arughat Bazaar (670m. / 2198ft.) in the Burhi Gandaki Valley. Oct 29: Trek via the villages of Arket and Kyropani to the Seti Khola. Oct 30: We continue our ascent of the Burhi Gandaki on an undulating trail, finally climbing to reach the village of Machha Khola (890m. / 2920ft.). Oct 31: We travel through gorge and forest sections to reach a wide and open part of the valley at Jagat (1410m. / 4626ft.). Nov 01: Trek through terraced hillside on an undulating trail to Nyak (1530m. / 5020ft.). Nov 02: We traverse a very dramatic section of the gorge to reach the Bhuddist village of Ghap (2040m. / 6693ft.). Nov 03: Climbing steadily we enter the alpine zone and get our first views of Manaslu North. Camp at the village of Lho (3150m. / 10,335ft.). Nov 04: Trek via Shala to Sama Gompa with impressive views of Manaslu. Camp close to the monastery (3500m. / 11,483ft). Nov 05: A shorter day today up to the last permanent settlement in the valley at Somdu (3860m. / 12,664ft.) Nov 06: An acclimatisation day at Somdu. Nov 07: Passing the trail to the Gya La, a centuries old trading route into Tibet, we ascend to Duwang (4450m. / 14,600ft.) where there is a small lodge. Nov 08: Cross the Larkya La (5135m. / 16,847ft.) and descend to Bimthang (3855m. / 12,648ft.). Nov 09: Excellent views of Manaslu and Annapurna II as we descend to Tilje village (2400m. /7874ft.). Nov 10: We join the Annapurna Circuit trail just 10 minutes north of Dharapani and follow the river down to Tal (1700m). Nov 11: A contingency day in case of delays to our trekking schedule. Rest day at Tal. Nov 12: Continue our descent of the Marshyangdi Valley passing larger settlements as we lose altitude and cross the river on suspension bridges a number of times. Nov 13: We have a final day of trekking entering the lush and fertile lower regions of the Marshyangdi. Arriving at the road-head we make our final camp. Nov 14: Return drive to Kathmandu. Celebratory with a meal in Thamel. Nov 16/17: Leave Kathmandu 20:00 (Local time) and fly Kathmandu to Doha / Doha to Manchester arrive 06:30 (local time). Nov 18: Work
